(1) Placed under the authority of a Deputy Director, the Sub-Directorate of Veterinary Health Inspection and Public Health is responsible for:

  • monitoring and implementing government policy on inspection and veterinary public health;
  • the development and monitoring of the implementation of projects in the field of veterinary inspection and public health;
  • the development and monitoring of the application of regulations on veterinary inspection and public health;
  • the control, application and promotion of quality standards in veterinary public health;
  • certification of the health quality of foodstuffs of animal and fishery origin and livestock inputs, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
  • participation in the examination of applications for approval, authorisations for the creation and opening of establishments for the exploitation of products of animal and fishery origin, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
  • participation in the development of quality standards in veterinary inspection and public health, in liaison with the administrations concerned;
  • the examination of technical health advice files on the import or export of foodstuffs of animal and fishery origin, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
  • the popularization of scientific and technical documentation in the field of veterinary health and public health inspection;
  • monitoring the application of quality standards in veterinary health inspection;
  • prevention and control of zoonoses, in conjunction with the administrations concerned.
