Epidemiological Surveillance Service
(1) Placed under the authority of a Head of Department, the Epidemiological Surveillance Service is responsible for:
- the organization and monitoring of issues related to the epidemiological surveillance of diseases;
- the development and monitoring of the implementation of epidemiological surveillance projects;
- monitoring the application of
the regulations on epidemiological surveillance; - the promotion of the economics of animal health in the evaluation of animal disease prevention and control programmes, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
- participation in the validation of animal health data collection and management tools;
- the preparation, monitoring and implementation of operational research programmes in animal health, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
- participation in the development and validation of contingency plans against epizootics;
- the organisation, monitoring and coordination of national epidemiological surveillance systems, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
- the exploitation of operational research results in disease prevention and control procedures;
- the popularization of procedures and methods for disease prevention and control;
- monitoring of laboratories for the diagnosis of animal diseases and the production of vaccines;
- the popularization of technical documentation in animal epidemiology.
