Sub-Directorate for Health Protection and Epidemiological Surveillance
(1) Placed under the authority of a Deputy Director, the Sub-Directorate for Health Protection and Epidemiological Surveillance is responsible for:
- the development and monitoring of livestock health protection projects;
- the development, monitoring and control of the application of regulations on the health protection of livestock;
- monitoring and controlling the movement of live animals, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
- the examination of technical health advice files on the import of live animals;
- participation in the development of standards for the installation of livestock farms and livestock farming establishments, in liaison with the administrations concerned;
- the development and monitoring of the application of standards for the management and protection of the natural and artificial biotopes of the various herds, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
- monitoring and controlling the production, distribution and use of vaccines and veterinary biologics;
- monitoring the movement of livestock and cross-border trade;
- participation in the development and monitoring of the application of traceability methods for animals and livestock products, in liaison with the administrations concerned;
- liaison with international bodies in the field of livestock health protection and animal welfare;
- monitoring of cross-border animal health issues;
- the internal livestock movement police;
- participation in the popularization of scientific and technical documentation on livestock health protection;
- the development and monitoring of the implementation of epidemiological surveillance projects;
- the development and monitoring of the implementation of operational research projects in the field of animal health;
- monitoring of laboratories for the diagnosis of animal diseases and the production of vaccines;
- the development and updating of epidemiological maps;
- issues related to the economics of animal health with the administrations concerned;
- the popularization of scientific and technical documentation in the field of epidemiology.
