(1) Placed under the authority of a Deputy Director, the Sub-Directorate of Animal Feed is responsible for:

• the identification and coordination of actions contributing to the improvement of pasture and compound feedingstuffs;
• the development of regulations and the monitoring of standards, as well as their application in relation to compound foods, in liaison with the administrations concerned;
• monitoring the development and regeneration of natural fodder resources;
• monitoring and control of the animal feed industries, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
• the promotion of hygiene and safety of animal feed;
• the development and monitoring of the application of the regulations on the industrial manufacture of feed intended for animal feed, in conjunction with the administrations concerned;
• support for the development of projects relating to the animal feed industries;
• the examination of applications for approval, authorisation to create and/or open establishments in the feed industry in relation to the administrations concerned;
• the collection of statistics on the animal feed industries.

(2) It shall include:

• The Animal Feed and Feed Quality Standards Service;
• The Department for the Promotion of Agricultural and Agro-industrial By-Products.
