SHRIMP FISHING IN CAMEROON: THE GOVERNMENT GIVES ITS BLESSING

On Tuesday, March 12, 2025, Dr. TAÏGA, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries, and Animal Industries, traveled to Douala, in the Littoral region, to officially open the workshop on the development of the Management Plan for Industrial and Artisanal Shrimp Fishing. This workshop is of great importance for structuring and ensuring the sustainable development of this strategic sector in Cameroon. 

During the ceremony, several key figures took the floor, including Mr. Raymond LASTATE, Head of the European Union Program, and Dr. OUATTARA, Acting Representative of the FAO in Cameroon. 

In his opening speech, Minister TAÏGA, representing the State of Cameroon, emphasized the significance of the shrimp fishing industry by recalling its history and highlighting the challenges and objectives of this gathering. His speech, delivered in both French and English, had the tone of an inaugural lecture, addressing the challenges and opportunities within the sector. He concluded by expressing his hopes for productive and fruitful discussions. 

The workshop brought together a wide range of sector stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and industry professionals, led by the representatives of the Shrimp Platform in Cameroon.
