MINEPIA’S WORKING VISIT TO THE LITTORAL AND SOUTH-WEST REGIONS

After visiting the Far North and Adamaoua regions, the Minister for Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (MINEPIA) continued his working visit to the Littoral and South-West regions.

From 27 to 28 December 2022, Dr Taïga visited Producer Organisations (POs) benefiting from the support of the Livestock Development Project (PRODEL) and community infrastructures (aquaculture enterprises, aquaculture farms, poultry farms, etc.) built in this part of the country.

The overall objective of this activity is to give visibility to the actions carried out by the government within the framework of the import-substitution policy, with a view to reabsorbing the deficit in fish products in a context marked by galloping inflation. With a view to implementing the import-substitution policy advocated by the Head of State, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, had instructed that every effort should be made to limit our country’s heavy dependence on external supplies, particularly of fish, and to boost local production. The implementation of this policy requires the adoption of new strategies, including the promotion of profitable aquaculture businesses and a significant increase in private investment.

On 15 July 2020, MINEPIA launched a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFI) to encourage private investors, both national and foreign, to set up profitable commercial aquaculture projects in Cameroon.

Two years after the launch of ASMI, MINEPIA initiated a visit to the sector to see how these actions are progressing. He will be visiting the AQUARIN SARL aquaculture company at BOMONO in the Dibombari district, Moungo department, Littoral region, and the MAVECAM aquaculture farm in the Dizangué district, Sanaga Maritime department. MINEPIA also visited the MUNGO FISH FARM in Mulanga village in the Tiko district, Fako department, South-West region. MINEPIA’s visit to Producers’ Organisations and community infrastructures ended at the COFSAEL poultry farm at MISSOLE in the Dibamba district.
