FOOD SAFETY: MINEPIA INAUGURATES THE ESSOS MEAT MARKET
It is a modern infrastructure at the service of the population.
On November 26, 2025, the District Municipality of YaoundéV hostedthe official inauguration ceremony of the Essos meat market. A major infrastructurecarried out within the framework of the Project for the Development of Value Chains for Livestock and Fish Farming (PDCVEP).
Chaired by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, this ceremony brought together an audience of personalities, including the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, the African Development Bank, representatives of FEICOM, local elected officials, administrative authorities, as well as a large number of people who came to testify to the importance of this event for the life of their municipality.
As the host authority, the Mayor warmly welcomed the participants and all his guests. He expressed his gratitude to MINEPIA for its constant commitment and personal support to the municipality. “The market that we are inaugurating today is an essential asset for employment, trade and the improvement of the living conditions of the population,” said the first magistrate of the municipality of Yaoundé 5. With these words, the Mayor recalled the concrete impact of this project on the daily life of the inhabitants of the municipality and the importance of a constant partnership with MINEPIA.
The inaugurated structure is a modern market entirely dedicated to the sale of meat, at a total cost of 232,855,089 CFA francs. Its construction was financed thanks to the combined support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), FEICOM, and the State of Cameroon. It includes: 20 modern shops; a 40 m³ cold room operating down to –22 °C; two administrative offices; a storage store and toilets accessible to people with reduced mobility; two distinct entries ; a circulation area facilitating the movement of users and goods.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General of FEICOM, the FEICOM representative explained the role of FEICOM as a structure that has technically monitored the construction of this infrastructure: “By building modern market infrastructures and strengthening the capacities of stakeholders, the PDCVEP directlyrationalizes the National Strategy of the Economy.Development 2030, which promotes a structural transformation of the economy, specifically supporting the agricultural and livestock sectors, for inclusive growth, job creation and improved food security of the populations. ” she said. These remarks highlight the importance of this market as a concrete element in the implementation of the national development strategy.
For his part, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries in his inaugural speech made some reminders: “The infrastructure we are inaugurating is part of a set ofachievements aimed at the modernization of the livestock, fisheries and animal industries sub-sector, as well as thedevelopment of wineries.̂ related values. “, hesaid. “These marketswill make it possible to promote local production by offering superior quality productsto consumers, and to stimulate the local economy by creatingjobs,” he adds. With these remarks, the Minister underlined the strategic importance of these infrastructures for the development of the sector and the well-being of the populations.
The Yaoundé V meat sales market inaugurated on November 26, 2025 is part of a set of 26 similar infrastructures being built across Cameroon.
