DEVELOPMENT OF THE BEEKEEPING SECTOR : MINEPIA OFFERS MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT TO BEEKEEPERS
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. TAIGA, chaired the related ceremony on Thursday, April 03, 2025 in Mvog-besti.
A total of 53 beneficiaries obtained beekeeping materials and equipment from the hands of Dr. TAIGA. These are mainly 200 langstroth hives with supers, 326 Kenyan hives, 26 frame wires, 290 embossed waxes, 91 pairs of beekeeping gangs, 110 smokers, 200 feeders, 19 uncapping combs, 20 frame lifters, 19 wax rollers, 19 bee brushes, 104 beekeeping outfits, and 75 small gas blowtorches.
In order to boost honey production in Cameroon, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries urged the country’s 980 beekeepers to be more professional in the quality of honey production. ” Cameroon has an ecology that is favorable to the development of the Apiac sector. Today, with our development partners in certain countries, we offer beekeepers beekeeping materials and equipment that will allow them to improve not only the quality of their production but also to have production tools adapted to their activities. And I would like to take this opportunity to call on beekeepers to better organise themselves and structure their sector, because we can be in a value chain approach. We have to produce more than we export. We have the advantage that our environment is still holy, with less pesticide and therefore we can produce more ,” said the minister.
During this ceremony, the representative and spokesperson of the beekeepers of Cameroon expressed his gratitude to the government for the permanent support of this sector. It should be noted that the annual national production in the beekeeping sector is 8000 tons of honey.
