DAIRY INDUSTRY: FARMERS’ PLEA TO THE GOVERNMENT

On Friday August 18, 2023, Dr TAÏGA, Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, presided over the official handover ceremony in Yaoundé of the cattle breeders’ advocacy document, with a view to ensuring that their proposals are taken into account in the process of drawing up the National Dairy Sector Development Plan (PNDFL). Present at the ceremony were his counterpart from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel MBAIROBE, the President of the Confédération Nationale des Eleveurs de Bovins du Cameroun (CNEB-CAM), the GIZ representative and many other players in the sector. The aim was to give a technical presentation on the progress of the PNDFL enrichment process, and above all on the submission of the plea to the government.

During the celebration, Dr. TAÏGA reminded the audience that milk and fish are among the products taken into account in the import substitution policy, hence the PNDFL prescribed on MINEPIA’s roadmap by the Prime Minister, Head of Government.

For the President of CNEB-CAM, this ceremony is not only a crucial moment, but also a milestone in view of the importance of this sector. “The milk sector plays an important role in the structural transformation of agriculture in Cameroon, since milk generates significant income for producers in rural and peri-urban areas”, he declared. With regard to strengthening the technical capacities of livestock farmers, GIZ has lent its full support to CNEB-CAM in the development process, so that they are in a position to increase their production.
