AQUACULTURE: AN INTERMINISTERIAL COMMITTEE SUPPORTS AQUACULTURE INVESTORS IN CAMEROON

The second session of the Interministerial Committee responsible for supporting investors in the aquaculture sector in Cameroon was held in Yaoundé on 6 September 2022.

The session was chaired by the Minister for Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taïga. Participants included Committee members, stakeholders and promoters of aquaculture in Cameroon.

The Committee was set up in March 2021, with a view to facilitating the installation of promoters shortlisted in a call for expressions of interest from national and foreign investors, to set up profitable commercial aquaculture projects in Cameroon.

After the first session held in June 2022, a series of actions were carried out to support aquaculture promoters, including: Identifying sites for the installation of promoters; Facilitating the import of inputs by promoters; Exemption from customs duties and taxes; Facilitating the creation of aquaculture businesses and investment incentives.

131 promoters were shortlisted in eight regions of the country. Many of these promoters have gone into production, increasing fish production by 1,000 tonnes, with the hope of reaching 30,000 tonnes by 2035.
