9th Animal Welfare Conference goes Operational
The Minister of Livestock Fisheries and Animal Indusltries, Dr Taiga has launched a 3 day Animal Welfare Conference in Yaounde.
The conference to run from the 28th to 30th July 2025 takes place under the theme; Strengthening Actions for Animal Welfare and Environment for a Sustainable Future and Resilient Plan.
Organized by the Africa Network for Animal Welfare,United Nations Environment Program, African Union Inter african Bureau for Animal Resources and the Cameroon government,it features representatives from various African countries which include, Morocco, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo,Kenya, Nigeria among others.
Based on the premise that when animals are well catered for,food supply increases, participants are expected tofacilitate policy discussions,enhance partnerships,show case innovative solutions and highlight indigenous knowledge to address pressing issues.
While opening the ceremony,Dr. Taiga enjoined participants to have a reflection on our ecosystem,the relationship with animals and nature at a time where our planet is affected by climate change. In the midst of rising sea levels and temperatures, modification of the earth by humans and major species going extinct,he called on all to take concrete action to address the issues.
The conference aligns with the African Union’s 2063 Agenda which envisions an integrated prosperous and peaceful Africa driven by it’s own citizens.
