9th AFRICAN CONFERENCE ON ANIMAL WELFARE: YAOUNDÉ CONFERENCE CLOSES
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, closed this three-day workshop this Wednesday, July 30, 2025 in Yaoundé.
The work, whose theme revolved around strengthening actions for animal welfare, saw the participation of several African countries, all under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme and the African Network for Animal Welfare. Dr. TAÏGA, on behalf of Lejeune MBELLA MBELLA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, thanked and congratulated all the participants and other stakeholders who made this workshop a success.
Cameroon, in its strategy for protecting the environment, biodiversity, and ecosystems, is sparing no effort to address animal welfare concerns. “Best practices, community support, and capacity building are among the actions to be observed on the evening of the Yaoundé conference and in favor of the animal cause,” MINEPIA will outline during its speech. “Cameroon, for its part, is committed to reforms in favor of animal welfare,” Dr. Taïga will then specify. The Epidemiological Surveillance Center, the adoption of the One Health approach, and public funding for more than 100 veterinarians working in private practice are just some of the actions and many more that Cameroon is taking to apply the concept of animal welfare.
