H.E. Philippe VAN DAMME at MINEPIA
The head of the European Union delegation was in audience with the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries on June 1, 2021.
H.E. Philippe Van Damme arrived at Dr. Taïga’s office at 11 a.m. on June 1, 2021. Accompanied by one of his collaborators, this diplomat, who had recently arrived in Cameroon, had certainly come first to make contact. But in his notes, he had more than one topic. “We spoke to the Minister about livestock and fisheries”, the head of the European Union (EU) delegation to Cameroon hinted.
The Minister and his host discussed two subjects. Firstly, the development of livestock farming in the northern part of the country, and secondly, the underdevelopment of fishing in the Atlantic waters around Cameroon. The northern part of the country is a livestock zone, where the economy is very important. For several years now, EU member states have been supporting Cameroon in its development ambitions. This approach now needs to be integrated into the development policies of this institution.
With regard to fisheries, the EU and its member states are helping Cameroon to develop a fishing industry that is accessible to the European Union market. This will require upgrading, training and standards procedures.
