BIODEV 2030 PROJECT: HALTING THE DECLINE IN BIODIVERSITY

This is the objective of this two-year project, which arrived in Cameroon and was presented to MINEPIA at a hearing in Yaoundé on March 24, 2021.

We need to save a million animal and plant species currently threatened with extinction, yet ecosystems provide society with a number of vital services. Beyond this aspect, food security, the economy, health and even life in general are threatened.

It is in this context of biodiversity conservation that the focal point of the biodev2030 Cameroon project was received by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries on March 24, 2021 at his office in Yaoundé. Joséphine Beyala Eloundou, accompanied by several members of the project, met with Dr. TAÏGA to discuss MINEPIA’s sub-sectoral biodiversity protection strategies. Referring to certain documents such as the SND30 (National Development Strategy) or DSDSR (Rural Sector Development Strategy Document), biodiversity protection is well taken into account, notably through fishing, biological rest, the banning of certain fishing equipment, zoning, and many other actions carried out by MINEPIA. Livestock farming is not to be outdone in the fight for the protection and sustainable use of natural resources. During the meeting, the Minister asked his host to ensure that awareness-raising extended to the furthest reaches of the national territory, but he also reassured him that the fight would continue.
