THE PD-CVEP LAUNCHES ITS ACTIVITIES

The Livestock and Fish Farming Value Chain Development Project (PD CVEP) officially launched its activities on 17 March 2021. This was at the end of the first ordinary session of the Steering Committee (COPIL) of this project, which aims to accelerate entrepreneurship in the pastoral and fisheries value chains.

The first session of this COPIL was chaired by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, in the presence of the FAO Cameroon representative.

The aim of the project is to make an inclusive contribution to improving food and nutritional security and reducing poverty in Cameroon. It also aims to improve the hygienic quality of beef, pork and fish products. Other objectives of the project, which will be implemented in the country’s ten regions, include improving the incomes of stakeholders and promoting entrepreneurship. Over a five-year period, the PD CVEP will also focus on developing the infrastructure needed to upgrade the sectors, building the capacity of stakeholders and coordinating the project as a component.

Cattle, pigs and farmed fish are the only products covered by this project, which is being financed to the tune of 65 billion CFA francs by the African Development Bank. Breeders, fish farmers, corporate and mutual organisations, and SMEs, among others, can benefit from the advantages of this project.
