The Minister’s responsibilities

THE MINISTER OF LIVESTOCK, FISHERIES AND ANIMAL INDUSTRIES is responsible for developing and implementing the Government’s policy on livestock, fisheries and the development of animal and fisheries industries.

In this capacity, he is responsible for:

  • On the development, planning and implementation of government programs in the areas of livestock breeding,
  • From fishing and animal and fish industries;
  • On the development of regulations and monitoring of standards, as well as their application in the areas of livestock farming, fishing, animal and fish industries;
  • Studies and research with a view to renewing animal, fish and fish resources in conjunction with the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation;
  • Quantitative and qualitative improvement of production and yields in the livestock and fisheries sectors;
  • Promoting investments in the areas of livestock farming and fishing in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development and the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development;
  • Improving health controls in maritime, river and fish fishing;
  • On the healthiness of foodstuffs of animal, fish and fishery origin;
  • On the protection of maritime and river resources;
  • Technical supervision in the relevant areas;
  • On the application of measures aimed at the conservation, development and exploitation of livestock and fishery products;
  • On the collection, production and analysis of statistics in the fields of livestock farming, fishing, animal and fishing industries;
  • Monitoring of professional organizations operating in the fields of livestock farming and fishing;
  • Monitoring the training of human resources in the relevant areas in conjunction with other interested Administrations;
  • Monitoring of schools and training centers for personnel in veterinary medicine and in the relevant professions, excluding establishments under the Ministries responsible for education issues.

He exercises supervision over:

  • The Production Development and Exploitation Company

Animals (SODEPA) ;

  • The Maritime Artisanal Fishing Development Mission

(MIDEPECAM) ;

The National Veterinary Laboratory (LANAVET).
