MINEPIA AND JAPANESE AMBASSADOR TO CAMEROON VISIT YOUPWE
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga, accompanied by H.E. the Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Mr TAKAOKA, made a working visit to Douala in the Littoral Region on Friday 19 August 2022. Activities began with a coordination meeting aimed at monitoring the effective and efficient execution of the landing stage and the Youpwe fish market currently under construction, coordinating the actions of the various projects, determining the level of execution and discussing preparations for the technical acceptance ceremony. This was followed by a tour of the site by the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, who was accompanied by the Japanese ambassador, his wife and members of the inter-ministerial committee.
At the end of the working visit to the site, H.E. Mr TAKAOKA said he was satisfied with the level of implementation of the project, which stood at 74%, adding that Cameroon is the hub of food production, particularly fish in the CEMAC zone, because of its many bodies of water.
After the visit, Dr Taiga handed over fishing equipment including floating cages and fishing nets to Achille NGUEDE, a fish farmer who owns an impressive fish pond in Douala. The YOUPWE landing stage and fish market construction project will be completed in January 2023.
