BRAISED FISH MADE IN CAMEROON: GETTING TRAINED

On Wednesday 30 November 2022, the Chamber of Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock and Forestry (CAPEF) hosted the 2nd training workshop for ember professionals on the use of made-in-Cameroon aquaculture fish as a raw material in their business. The first workshop was held in Douala on 14 November this year. This time, the focus was on the city of Yaoundé to promote braised fish 237 branded “MBOA”.

In his speech, the Minister for Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taïga, underlined the importance of bringing together producers and processors. The latter, who are an important link in the value chain as intermediaries between producers and consumers, play a major role in the development of braised fish 237. And for this to be really implemented, it would be necessary to work as a whole, for producers to have relatively low prices, so that the braisers can also sell the products without difficulty. He also expressed the wish to see all Cameroonians consume what they produce (referring of course to products from local aquaculture) in order to boost the national economy. A nutritionist and dietician also talked to participants about the nutritional qualities of local aquaculture fish and how to use the right spices to enhance its flavour. After the theory, the practice. The 36 participants were divided into groups of 07. A cooking expert taught them how to handle catfish, from cleaning to cooking.

Dr Taïga then visited each of the 07 groups’ braziers in turn, and made sure that the braziers had fully grasped the practical concepts they had been taught. The ceremony ended with the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries handing over aquaculture kits to some of the recipients. In a festive atmosphere, everyone present had the opportunity to discover and appreciate the unique flavour of local aquaculture fish. Braised fish 237 has a bright future ahead of it.
