RABIES CONTROL : THE FREE VACCINATION CAMPAIGN BEGINS IN THE CENTRE AND FAR NORTH
The second phase of the free mass vaccination campaign against rabies has begun in the four pilot departments of the RACE-WOSA project: Lekie, Nyong et So’o, Diamare and Mayo Kani.
Speaking at the campaign launch ceremony in Mbalmayo on 22 November 2023, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr TAÏGA, described rabies as a zoonosis that is often neglected, even though it is fatal. It is on this basis that the government of Cameroon and its partners have organised a campaign to eradicate the disease. Dr TAÏGA called on all pet owners and animal lovers to vaccinate their animals against the disease. One hundred million vaccines have been supplied for the campaign. As for the details of the vaccination campaign, the director of the RACE-OMSA project, POUEME Rodrigue, revealed that a team had been trained for the exercise and that equipment had been made available to carry out the door-to-door vaccination of animals.
Around 50 million dogs have been targeted in the four pilot divisions of the WHO-RACE project. The campaign will run from 22 November to 6 December 2023.
