MINEPIA meets fish farming stakeholders in Monatélé – Etaka
This Tuesday, July 12, the commune of ETAKA, in the district of MONATÉLÉ, department of LÉKIÉ, Centre region, welcomed the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. TAÏGA, who came to accompany and support the local fish farming dynamic.
Arriving with a large delegation from his ministerial department, the Minister was received in a festive atmosphere, to the sound of traditional dances and songs welcoming the people.
Addressing local authorities, young people and producers, he invited everyone to invest in fish production in order to reduce Cameroon’s dependence on fish imports. He presented this activity as a real source of income and a lever for sustainable development for the region. “Fish farming is a real economy. She doesn’t lie. “, he said with conviction.
To support local actors, the Minister offered: 50,000 fingerlings, 100 bags of fish feed, coolers, an oven for embers, etc.
The visit continued on the site of the fish farm, which already has 1,600 fry installed.
At the end of this ceremony, the Minister expressed the government’s determination to support fish farming through structuring projects and targeted support. He invited MONATÉLÉ – already nicknamed the “granary of the capital” – to also become a major hub for national fish production.
