Aquaculture sector : MINEPIA supports aquaculture investors.
The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taiga, chaired, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the 9th, 10th and 11th sessions of the interministerial committee in charge of supporting investors in the aquaculture sector in Cameroon.
The objective was to invite private investors, both domestic and foreign, to express their interest in the implementation of commercial and profitable aquaculture projects, covering the production of inputs (feed and fingerlings), intensive farming, as well as the marketing and distribution of table fish.
In his speech, the Minister stressed that 202 files have already been pre-qualified and that about twenty operators have started their projects in the field, while others are continuing their installation. The overall goal of this interministerial committee is therefore to support investors in setting up profitable aquaculture projects by facilitating the installation of aquaculture farms.
It should be noted that this inter-ministerial committee is part of the Integrated Plan for Agro-pastoral and Fisheries Import-Substitution (PIISAH), a presidential project aimed at reducing the trade balance deficit through the substitution of imported products by local production. In concrete terms, this project plans to facilitate access to land for aquaculture, guarantee the availability of aquaculture inputs, develop marketing channels and facilitate access to bank credit for the aquaculture sector.
