MASS VACCINATION CAMPAIGN FOR TRADITIONAL POULTRY OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED IN NORTHERN REGIONS

On behalf of the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taïga, the Secretary General in place of the Governor of the Adamawa region chaired, in Vina, the official ceremony to launch the vaccination of 500,000 traditional poultry. This large-scale initiative is part of the Emergency Project to Combat the Food Crisis (PULCCA), implemented in the Far North, North and Adamawa regions.

In these areas, traditional poultry — chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys — play a central role in the domestic economy, food and local traditions. Unfortunately, recurrent diseases such as avian plague, Gumboro disease or fowl pox continue to considerably weaken farms.

Through this free vaccination campaign, the Cameroonian Government, supported by its technical and financial partners, intends to strengthen the resilience of livestock farmers, improve productivity, reduce losses, and contribute sustainably to food security. Teams of veterinarians and technicians will travel to the villages to vaccinate the poultry, with the support of local authorities and community leaders.

“The State provides the means, but success depends on the commitment of each farmer,” said the Governor, calling for a collective mobilization to establish these regions as a national poultry model.
