JAPAN STRENGTHENS COOPERATION TIES WITH MINEPIA

The newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E MINAMI Kentaro has declared his commitment to do his utmost best to promote the development of fisheries in Cameroon.

The declaration was made during an audience with the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr. Taiga. Discussions centered on strengthening cooperation ties with the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries with a view of old projects realised, existing and future ones.

The duo talked elaborately about concrete projects as they gave assurance of the continuation of fruitful and good relations between Cameroon and Japan.

Japan through its Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delivers the bulk of official development Assistance for the government of Japan. It has provided assistance in areas such as agriculture and fishing. On the 12th December 2017, a funding agreement was signed with Japan for the project to upgrade the Youpwe fish market in Douala. The 1.7 billion project which has reached completion would be inaugurated in the days ahead.

Japan has also assisted fish farmers in Kribi by granting equipments and material which included a pick up vehicle, ice production unit, a generator and 35 speed boats of 15 horse power. They have also offered asisstance in the domain of education , infrastructure development, health, the environment and humanitarian aid. All these contribute to fulfilling the National Development Strategy of Cameroon.
